The American-Eastern European Council announces a series of lectures in the United States by renowned Russian public and political figure, Evgenii Savostianov.
Evgenii Savostianov, a representative of the liberal-democratic community in Russia, has held a number of leading positions in the first post-Soviet government of Russia prior to Putin's ascent. He began his political activity in 1989, being one of the leaders of the electoral campaign and co-chairman of the Academy of Sciences' Voters Club of the most famous Soviet dissident and scientist, Academician Sakharov. During the August 1991 coup attempt, Evgenii played a remarkable role in defeating the pro-communist putsch, before personally shutting down the headquarters of the Communist Party of the USSR. From 1991 to 1994, he headed the Moscow Office of the State Security Services, and from 1996 to 1998 he worked as deputy head of the administration of President Yeltsin.
In subsequent years, Savostianov ran various businesses and participated in democratic political movements, including a short-term race for the presidency of Russia in 2000.
In 2009, he initiated the creation of a movement for Russian-American rapprochement.
Evgenii Savostianov is the author of numerous books such as “Secret Services on the Edge” (2017), “Democrat & Counterspy" (2020), "I shut down the CPSU" (2023), many scientific and journalistic articles, inventions, scripts.
